Core concepts of American Community Health, LLC.
Defining Health
Health is a ambiguous state of being. Ask 10 people what health is and you get 10 different answers. How then are health care providers and the public going to come to agreement on what the desired outcome is with out first providing a working definition. The ACH working definition of health is;
“The absence of illness, the building of wellness and the releasing of human potential”
As this definition suggests health is not a state of being but a part of the journey of life.
Whole Health Model
When addressing the evolution of health care we need not invent new technologies but to recombine what is already known. The whole health models provides a beginning point to rethink what it means to be a health care provider. Providing an avenue toward a healthy life is complex and changes with each person. The whole health diagram captures these intricacies and allows them to be fluid and adapt to what ever circumstance is needed.

Nutrition: what we put in our bodies.
Fitness: what we do with our bodies.
Mental: what we put in our minds.
Social: what we do with our minds.
Emotional/Spiritual: focuses on the feelings associated with ourselves and the world around us.
The three rings in the center of the diagram represent the mind, body, spirit connection.
The outer ring represents the overall environment in which we live.
Lifestyle Medicine
In every evolution the seeds of change must come from within the organism. Lifestyle medicine encompasses a body of knowledge that forms the basis of the current period of change in the world of health care. Lifestyle Medicine as defined by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine is:
“Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is the use of lifestyle interventions in the treatment and management of disease. Such interventions include diet (nutrition), exercise, stress management, smoking cessation, and a variety of other non-drug modalities.”
